Born Out of a Problem

Markus was created by educators who experienced the growing pressures of GCSE English and Maths resits first-hand, increasing learner numbers, overwhelming marking demands, and the struggle to deliver timely, high-quality feedback. The result was burnout, stretched teams, and compromised consistency. Markus was built to change that. We also know this work is never done. Solving real problems creates new ones, and that's what keeps us building.

Our approach at Markus is rooted in the research of our co-founder Dr Mark Hyde, exploring Aesthetic Experience in language learning. When learners see their own world reflected in the language they study, engagement deepens and learning becomes personal. This research directly informs Starting Point Assessment and Living Colour, tools that don't just assess learning, but invite learners into it.
